Was browsing my mate Sam's website and saw he'd sat the Nerd test. Sat it myself. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you:

Nice one, HP! Linux.com reports that a woman installed linux on her HP PC. Her keyboard developed sticking keys and she rang Tech Support. Apparently she wasn't covered under her Hardware warranty because of the Software that was installed. Genius.

Quick tip on getting OpenOffice to start a *lot* faster (under a second on my machine, compared to 5 seconds previously). Stop it using Java!

1. Start up Openoffice (writer, for example)
2. Go to Tools->Options
3. In the options tree on the left-hand side of the panel, navigate to OpenOffice.org->Java
4. Uncheck the box that says "Use a Java runtime environment"
5. Close all Openoffice windows and restart

Java is used for the wizards and the database back-end – neither of which I use (preferring MySQL instead)

This tip works on all platforms.
