Mortal Kombat – Fight!!

A friend’s helping to run a new fight league in the North called, surprisingly, The Northern Fight League. The Debut Show is on the 6th December and looks as though it’ll be a good night out.

It takes traditional Mixed Martial Arts and focuses on the fighters and the event, making it entertaining without risk to the competitors. They’re pulling out all the stops to publicise the event and I’m happy to do my bit as well :-)

Lesson’s Learned from Capture The Flag

PaulDotCom offer a write-up of a Hack-The-Flag game at ICE2, held at Caesar’s Palace Las Vegas. It was interesting to see a well-structured, coherent write-up covering all levels, from the organising to the tools involved.

I’ve joined in Hack-the-Flags in the past (even winning one) and it was difficult enough with a few of us – we were very reactive at first, turning it around as the day progressed. Paul goes into coordinating varying groups into specific teams and delegating – given the experience I’ve gained since my last competition I recognise it’s the same kind of approach I’d use growing a team of developers for a RUP-style environment

Addendum – There’s another article up outlining the defender’s point-of-view. This has a bit more information on how the competition was organised. Much respect due – it sounds like it was well coordinated and (most of all) fun!

Craigslist: For all your criminal needs

An employer asked for applicants for a job advertised on Craigslist to arrive for work wearing

Yellow vest, safety goggles, a respirator mask… and, if possible, a blue shirt

The work was to perform roadworks outside the Bank of America in Monroe, Washington. Turns out he was actually robbing the Bank of America and wanted cover when he left the building. (See also: Inside Man, The Thomas Crown Affair)

Of course, this isn’t the only time Craigslist has been used for nefarious dealings

Kittens = autocute

I’m not a huge fan of the lolcats but this made me smile :)

One in every five kittens can see captions
